A bit less serious - Films

Continuing on from my excuse to mention Baby Boom previously, I thought I'd list some more - couldn't quite round it to ten, so my top 12 - in no particular order:

  1. Baby Boom (1987): The life of super-yuppie J.C. is thrown into turmoil when she inherits a baby from a distant relative.
  2. Tsotsi (2005): Six days in the violent life of a young Johannesburg gang leader (Chweneyagae).
  3. Jack and Sarah (1995): A young American woman becomes a nanny in the home of a recent British widower.
  4. Into the Wild (2007): After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.
  5. Toast (2010): The ultimate nostalgia trip through everything edible in 1960's Britain.
  6. 3 Men and a Baby (1987): Three bachelors find themselves forced to take care of a baby left by one of the guy's girlfriends.
  7. Juno (2007): Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual decision regarding her unborn child.
  8. The Railway Children (1970): The film opens in a happy, comfortable upper middle-class home in Victorian London. One night the three children see their father usher two strangers into his study...
  9. It's a Wonderful Life (1946): An angel helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.
  10. I Am Sam (2001): A mentally retarded man fights for custody of his 7-year-old daughter, and in the process teaches his cold-hearted lawyer the value of love and family.
  11. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006): A struggling salesman takes custody of his son as he's poised to begin a life-changing professional endeavor.
  12. City of God (2002):  Two boys growing up in a violent neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro take different paths: one becomes a photographer, the other a drug dealer.
Some are serious, some are silly. They all tell a story some how linked to elements of life creating or being part of a family.
